Below is an email I sent to one of the Western monks in my tradition. I am keeping his identity confidential. His reply is below. This kind of communication is something I have been wanted for years as I should be following the guidance of monks.

I really appreciated your last email, thank you.

You said I could write if I had sincere questions. What I would like to write about is the force of Mara in the world. My understanding is that Mara is always there and probably he’s stronger now than during the Buddha’s presence on earth. I also believe that nagas and maras work through the elite Jews from the higher realms. I don’t know about asuras. That is getting more into a Buddhist cosmological understanding of the Jews which causes me to relax somewhat because I know that Mara always has and always will be in the world so this is nothing for a Buddhist to get angry about. I don’t hate anybody. I have some equanimity about this reality.

In answer to your question: as a personal opinion only, I don’t think it is possible to blame the Jews as a group. What does this even mean? It is true that some powerful Jewish organizations have a negative influence on our societies, such as AIPAC and the ADL. But ordinary Jews are just as diverse in their outlooks as anyone else. I have known enough good Jewish people to see that. That said there are factions within Judaism that have entirely negative effect on the world. I am thinking particularly of the Sabbateans (or Frankists). They could very well be “agents of Māra” in the world. But there are also similarly anti-moral groups in other religions; some aspects of Tantra for example; see Trungpa and “Crazy Wisdom.”

Like I said before, it is very difficult at this time and place to have objective fair minded discussions about these topics. Maybe in a hundred years.
